HYDERABAD, JULY 20. The MCH Sweeping Contract Workers Union has demanded hike in their salaries and other employee benefits like provident fund, ESI, regularisation of services and other provisions of the Minimum Wages Act. In a memorandum submitted to the National Women Commission Chairperson, Poornima Advani, here on Tuesday, the Union, which staged a dharna, has charged private contractors of colluding with corporation officials in depriving monetary and other benefits to the sweepers. The union led by S. Balaraj, sought payment of Rs. 3,500 per month to sweepers and Rs. 4,500 per month to supervisors, sanctioning two pairs of uniforms and footwear along with radium wear for protection during nights. Facemasks for protection from pollution, monthly washing allowance of Rs. 100 and construction of houses for the workers, were some of the other demands put forth by it. The union accused the Government of not reacting to any number of representations or protest demonstrations to their demands.
