SAIL units maintain production

KOLKATA: With a production of 1.95 million tonnes of finished steel between April and June 2004, the integrated steel plants of the Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) managed to just about maintain their volume at the level of the first quarter of the previous year, a SAIL release said. Hot metal production was lower during the year on account of coal shortage. Plate production increased by 19 per cent during the quarter under review. Production of high value added items were also higher.
