Three AP players bag bronze

HYDERABAD, JULY 21. India bagged two gold medals and a total tally of eight medals in the 1st Asian Paralympic badminton championship that was held at Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) from July 14 to 18 according to information released here today.

Three players from A.P represented India and two of them returned with bronze medals.

The medallists were S. Raghuram of Karimnagar district (sponsored by Kesoram Cements) picked up a bronze in the standing (lower handicap) category while M. Srinivasa Rao also from Karimnagar distict won a bronze in the wheelchair category.

The third participant was Anjana Reddy who took part in the wheelchair category.

Ten Asian countries including China, Chinese Taipei, Pakistan, Hong Kong, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Japan, Korea and host Malaysia took part in the championship.

However the Indian team coach Mr. T. James who is also from AP expressed disappointment at the lack of recognition that the feat of the handicapped players had received at the official level.
