Stage set for counselling

THE GOVERNMENT Polytechnic College for Women, Guntur, has been readied for `online counselling' for admission into engineering colleges through EAMCET-2004. The first 2,000 rank holders have been invited on Thursday, with staggered timings beginning from 8.30 a.m, at five centres across the State. About 400 of these students are expected to report at the Guntur Centre, the Camp Officer, V. Ramachandra Rao, said.

Large display screens have been put up all over the centre so that candidates and their parents, seated on the renovated benches, can follow every stage of the admission process. About 100 candidates at a time will be allowed into the centre. Once the information is fed into the computer, physical verification of documents done and data sent to central server at Hyderabad, the candidates must get themselves registered by paying Rs. 200 (Rs.100 for SC\ST).

Students must bring their entire set of certificates - caste certificate (where applicable) of the student and parents, Income Certificate from the MRO and employer if the parent is working, the hall ticket, rank card, college transfer certificate and money (in cash or as draft). "Arrangements have been made for the simultaneous counselling of eight students. The student, and one parent, can check the available options for his rank and district," Mr. Rao said.

Students will only be shown the options available to them in their particular university area, and not the entire list. The student will be required to give five options in order of priority, and the central computer, depending on the rank and on intermediate marks in case of a tie in ranking, will allocate the college.
