This Day That Age
The Dalai Lama is reported to have stressed that his presence in Peking was essential not only "to express my views on the draft Constitution of China, of which Tibet is an integral part, but also for other important reasons." Prior to his departure for Peking, the Dalai Lama addressed a public durbar at Lhasa. In a message to the people on that occasion, the spiritual head of Tibet is stated to have said: "Great leaders of Asia will be visiting China to meet our great leader, Mao Tse-tung, when I will be staying in Peking and it is a great honour for me to be present there. It is out of my own free will that I have accepted this invitation."
