Kollam
By Our Staff Reporter
KOLLAM, JULY 22. In support of the demands for improving the conditions at the Government hospitals and the alleged apathy of the State Government towards such hospitals, the Kerala NGO Union will stage a mass dharna in front of the government hospitals across the State. The dharna in Kollam district will be in front of the district hospital and the Punalur, Kottarakara, Sasthamcotta and Karunagapally taluk hospitals. The district secretary of the NGO Union, V.P. Jayaprakash Menon, said the demands include filling up of all vacancies in the government hospitals and dropping the move to privatise health service sector. The moves of the Government smacked of a policy aimed at handing over the sector to the commercial interests. Even the facilities at the medical college and district hospitals were being handed over to the private sector, he alleged. There are 10,000 vacancies in government hospitals, he pointed out.
