ERODE, JULY 22 . Ten devotees from Erode were attacked by honeybees on Wednesday. According to information, devotees who went to Sangili Karupannaswamy temple near Pasur, 20 kms from here were cooking using faggots and firewood. Due to the heavy smoke, bees from beehives on the trees nearby flew out and started attacking the devotees. While some devotees entered the temple premises and closed the doors, ten were injured. They were removed to a private nursing home at Ganapathypalayam. On information, Erode Fire and Rescue services rushed to the spot and helped the devotees out from the temple.
RI for panchayat officials
Two panchayat officials were awarded one year RI each on Wednesday for receiving bribe. The case for prosecution was that, Kuppuswamy of Siruvalure had approached panchayat officials with details to fix property tax for the building constructed for his coconut coir factory at Siruvalure. The then Executive Officer of the panchayat, Nallasamy, demanded Rs. 1,000 as bribe to fix low tax for him. Kuppuswamy informed this to the Vigilance and Anti Corruption Police, here on September 27, 1998 who arrested Nallasamy and the Bill Collector, Chinnaraj, while taking bribe. The Erode District Chief Judicial Magistrate, Jayaraman, awarded the sentence, and ordered a fine of Rs. 4,000 each.
