33-year RI for gang rape

KRISHNAGIRI, JULY 22 . The Judge of the Hosur Sub-court, D. Elangovan, on Tuesday sentenced six persons to 33 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a 38-year-old woman and her 17-year-old daughter.

According to the prosecution, Ramesh, Chandrappa, Murugan, Muniraj, Ravi, Madhu, Duraisamy and Chinnaraj gang-raped the two on November 19, 1995.

The charges against Ramesh and Murugan could not be proceeded as they died before the police arrested them.

The case was initially investigated by the Hosur town police and subsequently transferred to the CB-CID.

The judge sentenced the accused for various offences under Sections IPC 458 (housebreaking by night after hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 395 (commit dacoity), 395 read with 397 (committing dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 376 (class II sub clause G committing gang rape).

The sentences would run concurrently.
