GUWAHATI, JULY 22. An all-party meeting held here today decided to constitute relief committees comprising representatives of all political parties at the State, district and subdivision level to ensure proper distribution of relief materials among flood affected people in the State. The meeting convened by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi also urged the State Government to seek financial assistance from the Centre for providing relief to the affected people at least for six months even after the water recedes. Another resolution adopted at the meeting of the political parties unanimous decided to pressure the Centre for treating Assam's flood and erosion problem as a national problem.
Entire machinery mobilised
Apprising the representatives of different political parties present in the meeting about the gravity of the flood situation, the Chief Minister said the State Government had mobilised the entire machinery and geared it up for rescue and relief operations in the flood affected areas. Representatives of the political parties, however, drew the attention of the Chief Minister to allegations of relief materials not reaching many affected people and stressed the need for constitution of all-party relief committees at the State, district and subdivision level to ensure proper distribution of relief materials
