Held for bid to smuggle diesel

RAMANATHAPURAM, JULY 22. The Thankatchimadam police today arrested three persons including a Sri Lankan national for allegedly trying to smuggle diesel to Sri Lanka.

Sources said on a tip-off, the police raided a house at Thankatchimadam, 45 km from here, and found 20 litres of diesel, which was in the possession of M. Vijayakumar (23) of Yaalpanam in Sri Lanka, P. Ramesh (23) and L. Lakshmanan (20) of Thattakamanpatti in Dindigul district. There were no valid documents with Vijayakumar for staying in Tamil Nadu.

In another incident, the police thwarted an attempt of a group of refugees to escape to Sri Lanka illegally. The police detained 15 refugees when they were about to board a boat.
