Dharwad
By Our Special Correspondent
DHARWAD, JULY 22. D. Roopa today took over as the Superintendent of Police, Dharwad Rural, which is considered one of the smallest districts with less than half a dozen police stations. Immediately on assuming office, Ms. Roopa went in an autorickshaw to the Dharwad Rural Police Station on a surprise visit, where she found a woman waiting to register a complaint. She directed the police personnel at the station to register the complaint immediately. She told presspersons that it would be her endeavour to open a special cell to provide help and counselling to women and children. The undivided Dharwad was considered one of the big districts as far as policing was concerned. However, with the creation of the Commissionerate of Police for Hubli-Dharwad initially and trifurcation of the undivided district into Dharwad, Gadag, and Haveri contributed to the jurisdiction of Dharwad (Rural) district being truncated.
