ONGC, Reliance in Business Week list

NEW DELHI, JULY 22. Eight Indian companies including the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) and Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) have found place for the first time in `The Global 1000 List' of BusinessWeek in terms of market value.

This year, the ONGC entered the list at the 260th rank, while RIL was globally ranked at 402. The market value of ONGC is pegged at $19.67 billion while that of RIL is at $13.22 billion.

Other Indian companies in the list are Indian Oil Corporation, at the 638th position with a market value of $8.61 billion, followed by Wipro at 704th slot with a market value of $7.81 billion.

Infosys Technologies, with a market cap of $7.61 billion, is at the 727th rank, while Hindustan Lever has entered the list at the 816th rank with a market value of $6.64 billion. Bharti Tele-Ventures emerged at 948th rank with a market value of $5.65 billion and State Bank of India at the 993rd rank with a market value of $5.39 billion.

Among the eight Indian companies in the list, three companies are public sector undertakings while five are from the private sector.

Reliance Industries leads the list of private sector companies while Oil and Natural Gas Corporation leads the public sector undertakings.

Top global companies

The top five global companies according to the list are General Electric at Number 1 position with a market value of $328.11 billion, followed by Microsoft with a market value of $284.43 billion.

Exxon Mobil and Pfizer stood at third and fourth position with a market value of $283.61 billion and $269.66 billion, respectively.

The retail major Wal-Mart Stores was ranked fifth with $241.19 billion in market value.

For the first time, this year's list includes the top companies from emerging markets.
