TIRUPATI. July 22. Students belonging to the local Tamil High School on Thursday paid homage to their counterparts who were charred to death in the gory inferno that engulfed a private school in Kumbakonam recently. Boys and girls sporting black badges lined up in their school courtyard to say prayers seeking peace for the souls of the children who lost their lives in the inferno.
Silence observed
A pal of gloom also hung over the campus as students observed a two- minute silence as a mark of respect the children who dies in the fire mishap. Members of the Tirupati Cultural Association and the management of Tamil School besides some district AIADMK functionaries also participated in the memorial meeting.
Call for preventive measures
Narra Munichandra, a key figure in the school management and the founder-president of the People's Party hoped that the Kumbakonam incident should become an eye-opener to the avaricious private schools managements who throw safety norms to the winds. Mr. Munichandra also appealed to the Tirupati Municipal and the District Educational authorities to take preventive measures so that such tragedies can be prevented in the future.
