CUDDAPAH, JULY 22. It was targeted to disburse crop loans to the tune of Rs. 446 crores through banks in Cuddapah district in the current financial year, said the district Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, on Thursday. Addressing a meeting of bankers at the DRDA meeting hall here, he said it was targeted to disburse crop loans of Rs. 265 crores during the kharif season and Rs. 190.90 crores in Rabi season.
182 banks issue loans
The 182 bank branches in the district should disburse crop loans to at least 100 farmers each, he advised. The State Bank of India and Syndicate Bank branches agreed to give crop loans to at least 150 farmers and the Rayalaseema Grameena Bank branches to about 500 ryots, he added.Of the 28,724 loan applications received from farmers, 11,494 were extended loans last year, the Collector stated.
Plea to bankers
In all, ten farmers committed suicide due to debt burden and suicide by other farmers were due to other reasons, he observed. He urged the bankers to expeditiously extend loans to the kin of ryots who ended their lives due to debts. The Government was extending an assistance of Rs. 1.50 lakhs to ryots dying of debt burden. The Joint Collector, G. Jayalakshmi, Velugu Project Director, B. Vijayendira, the Syndicate Bank Regional Manager, Raghurama Rao, the Deputy GM of Andhra Bank, Jogi Raju, AGMs, Nagarajan (NABARD), Singh (RGB), and several Government officials also participated.
