HYDERABAD, JULY 22. The Higher Education Minister, P. Venkateswara Rao, on Thursday said discussions were still in progress on continuation of EAMCET and a final decision would be taken "very soon." Replying to supplementaries during question hour in the Assembly, the Minister said the Government is examining the views obtained from different sections on EAMCET. On the complaint by D. Venkateswara Rao (Congress) that private, unaided junior colleges were conducting special classes during the summer vacation, he said stern action, including disaffiliation, would be taken against such managements. He said the Board of Intermediate Education has asked all the principals of junior colleges to follow the "annual programme calendar" for the academic year 2004-05 and any violation would lead to severe action.
Agriculture pumpsets
The Finance Minister, K. Rosaiah, told J. Ranga Reddy (CPI-M) and other members that there was no way of increasing the 50,000 power connections to farm pumpsets to be released under the Tatkal scheme during the eight months of this financial year. This was because the Government was already bearing the twin burdens of free power supply and waiver of electricity basis. In all, 3,32,265 applications for such connections were pending as on May 31, the Minister said.
