Okkoota to oppose rehabilitation package

By Our Correspondent

CHIKMAGALUR, JULY 22. Kalkuli Vittal Hegde, president of the Kudremukh Rashtriya Udyanavana Virodhi Okkoota, has said that his organisation will oppose the Rs. 60-crore rehabilitation package announced by the State Government for the rehabilitation of people living in the Kudremukh National Park.

Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, Mr. Hegde regretted that on the one hand, the Government was maintaining that the people would not be evicted from the national park while on the other, it was trying to get the approval of the Centre for implementing the special rehabilitation package.

Urging the Government to announce a development package for people living in the national park, he alleged that the police were trying to curb the activities of his organisation.

Mr. Hegde wanted the Government to refrain from "misguiding" the people and declare that no attempts would be made to shift the tribal people living in the area.
