MADIKERI, JULY 22. As many as 224 Stree Shakti groups from the three taluks in Kodagu will be provided with loans from banks. This was revealed at a meeting of the district coordination committee pertaining to Stree Shakti groups presided over by Subramanya, headquarters assistant to the Deputy Commissioner. An official press release issued here said 69 groups in Madikeri taluk, 82 in Somwarpet taluk, and 73 in Virajpet taluk would be given loans to carry forward various income-generating activities. Mr. Subramanya asked the executive officers of the three taluk panchayats to take steps to provide fingerlings to Stree Shakti groups. Discussions were held on finding market for the items manufactured by the groups in the district, the release said. As many as 437 groups including 118 groups in Madikeri, 206 in Somwarpet, and 113 in Virajpet taluk, were involved in manufacturing food items. They could be marketed through the public distribution system, it was suggested. The Chief Executive Officer of the Kodagu Zilla Panchayat, P.L. Budihal; the Deputy Secretary of the zilla panchayat, Mahadevayya; and the Assistant Commissioner, Nagaraj; were present at the meeting.
