GULBARGA, JULY 22. Dalits of Hagarga village in Gulbarga taluk protested under the leadership of the Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) in front of the Zilla Panchayat office here today. They demanded the provision of basic amenities in their village and the development of the Harijan Colony. In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat, Subodh Yadav, the divisional president of the DPI, Mallappa Hosmani, asked the zilla panchayat to take up construction of stormwater drains from the new layout in the village to the main village and repair of the link road to the village. They also demanded that the zilla panchayat take up the desilting of the tank in the village and provide drinking water facility to the Harijan Colony. The memorandum wanted the zilla panchayat to take up drought relief works to provide employment to agriculture labourers.
