GUNTUR, JULY 22. Counselling for admission into the engineering colleges through the EAMCET-2004 was conducted smoothly on Thursday. The Centre Officer, Ramachandra Rao, said that while 247 students had registered for counselling only 238 took admission. The exercise began at 9 a.m. with students and parents queuing up outside the Government Polytechnic for Women at Guntur The EAMCET convener had called students with ranks up to 2,000 on the first day. Three public sector banks put up their stalls to help students secure loans. Each bank got about 10 enquiries each. The United India Insurance Company also put up a stall requesting the students to take a combined policy with their parent so that in case of accidental death of one, the other will be compensated. They had to pay a one-time premium of Rs. 660 for four years and while the parent was covered for Rs. 3 lakhs, the student was covered for Rs. 2 lakhs. If the parent dies the student is paid Rs. 3 lakhs and remaining tuition and hostel fee. If the student dies, the parent gets Rs. 2 lakhs.
