He said that during July last year, the Power Utilities supplied average 546 lakh units of power daily while currently the Utilities are supplying average 722 lakh units daily.
He said that the major reasons for the sharp increase in demand of power are failure of monsoon, scorching heat and comparatively increased requirement of power by the agriculture sector.
"The rains are scanty all over Northern India, due to which demand of power in all the states affiliated to the Northern Grid has increased sharply causing excessive load on the grid and hence low frequency. To keep the frequency level in control, it becomes technically necessary to reduce power consumption through cuts to avoid the danger of tripping of the Grid."
