MYSORE, JULY 22. Tension prevailed at K.R. Pet in Mandya district when a mob went on the rampage and threw stones at a school building on Thursday following rumours that a pontiff of a math allegedly tried to molest a schoolteacher. The situation worsened when a large crowd, which gathered near the school run by the Hemagiri Math, demanded that the swamiji be handed over to them. However, the police rushed to the spot and whisked away the swamiji, who was admitted to the BGS Apollo Hospital in Mysore. The police said that a complaint against the swamiji was filed by some relatives of the teacher though the latter did not take any initiative in this regard. Subsequently, the relatives withdrew the complaint and sought to make truce to safeguard the honour of the institution. By then the rumour had spread and the crowd had assembled near the school. The police said that the swamiji had stated that the teacher had been dismissed for her inefficiency following which she tried to bring political pressure on him and had now resorted to malign him in this manner. The situation in the town is said to be peaceful.
