HYDERABAD, JULY 22. The categorical instruction of the Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, for deleting the name of Ramakrishna, secretary of the CPI-ML People's War (PW) State committee, from the list of wanted criminals has been ignored by the Police Department. Two days after Mr. Reddy announced at a press conference that the Government would remove Ramakrishna's name from the list of criminals as a goodwill gesture, the CID website continued to have the name of "Haragopal Akkiraju alias Ramakrishna alias Gopal" as first among the top 10 most wanted criminals. The Home Minister's decision on removing the name from the list came in the wake of a serious objection raised by the emissaries of the People's War for talks -- Gadar, Varavara Rao and Kalyan Rao -- during their discussions with the Government for ironing out some kinks before the actual talks began. The PW representatives maintained that the Government could not include the naxalite party's secretary in the list of criminals, even while it wanted to hold talks with naxalites.
Profile
Agreeing with their contention, Mr. Reddy announced at a press conference on Tuesday that the police were instructed to remove the name from the list on the CID website immediately. However, the website, www.cidap.gov.in continued to have the name till Thursday night. The profile of Ramakrishna on the site mentioned that he was wanted in connection with the claymore mine attack on the former Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, at Alipiri on October 1, 2003.
Pop-up window
In addition to these details in the most wanted criminals folder, the website was also throwing up a pop-up baby window containing a closeup shot of Ramakrishna, urging the browsers to "earn handsome rewards by giving information on wanted persons."
