UDUPI, JULY 22. The Chief Executive Officer of the Udupi Zilla Panchayat, K. Sundar Naik, on Thursday said the District Consumer Information Centre had the responsibility of disseminating information pertaining to consumer rights among the people. He was speaking at a function here organised by the Udupi Consumers' Forum and the centre to mark the handing over of a weighing machine to the centre. Mr. Naik said the centre in Udupi was the first one in the State. It also had the responsibility of disseminating information on government programmes in addition to those of the zilla panchayat, taluk panchayats, and gram panchayats, he added. The centre should act as the watchdog of consumers' interests. The local bodies should take advantage of the centre, he said. K. Damodar Aithal, convener of the forum, welcomed the gathering. A.P. Kodancha delivered the introductory remarks. Shantaraj Aithal proposed a vote of thanks.
