Partly cloudy

CHENNAI, JULY 22. The sky will remain partly cloudy on Friday, with the possibility of very light rain in some areas. On Thursday, Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 34.9 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 27.8 degrees Celsius. At Meenambakkam, the temperatures were 33.8 degrees Celsius maximum and 26.4 degrees Celsius minimum.

Humidity levels were 49 per cent and 66 per cent.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended on Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the Puzhal, West Mambalam, Egmore, Ayyappakkam, Mathur, Seven Wells, Anna Salai, Mandaveli and Thirumudivakkam areas for maintenance work.

Certificates issued

A function to issue certificates to the students of Bridge Course Centre under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan was organised recently by the Rotary club of Chennai East R.A. Puram and Members of Poovai area Brick Manufacturers Association at Thirumazhisai.

S. Anbalagan, chief education officer, Thiruvallur, and R. Ramamurthy, Inspector of Labour, Thiruvallur, participated.

Yoga programme

The Shiv Darshan Yoga Vidyalaya is organising a one-day yoga programme on Sunday for college students from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Charter Day

The Rotary Club of Madras celebrated 76th Charter Day recently. R. Seshasayee, Managing Director, Ashok Leyland, attended. Bharathanatyam artiste, Alarmel Valli, Nalli Kuppuswamy of Nalli Silks and Sudha Raghunathan, Carnatic vocalist, were honoured as part of the centenary celebrations of Rotary International.

The film, `India 5555', produced and directed by Krishnaswamy was screened on the occasion.
