CHENNAI, JULY 22. Students and residents of Nemilicheri near Pattabiram staged a protest demanding that suburban EMU trains halt at the village. Around 12.15 p.m. a large number of villagers, along with students from nearby educational institutions, squatted on the railway track between Tirunindravur and Pattabiram railway stations. The Patna-bound Sangamitra Express was detained for about 15 minutes, police said. A couple of years ago, residents of the village and students from nearby self-financing educational institutions submitted a petition to railway authorities asking for a halt of suburban trains. A.K. Moorthy, the then Minister of State for Railways, assured them that steps would be taken in this regard.
