`Jalotsavam' on September 2

THIUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 22. The second "Jalotsavam" organised by the Thiruvananthapuram Jalotsava Samithi would be held in River Karamana on September 2. The patron of the Jalotsava Samithi, M. Vijayakumar told media persons here that the aim of the festival was to propagate the message that rivers are the country's lifeline. The pageantry consisting of several decorated country boats, catamarans, fishing boats, fibre boats as well as a band display on boats, floating restaurants and display of various art forms would start from "Jalotsava Nagar" near the Karamana bridge and would conclude at Thiruvallam.

A boat race would also be held on September 1 at Panathura in connection with the Jalotsavam.

Course

The YMCA Institute of Public Speaking is organising a course in public speaking here from July 26. The course will be open for Plus Two, college going and engineering students. The timing is from 5-30 p.m. to 7-30 p.m. on all working days. Details are available at the YMCA office.

Priest held

A 37-year-old Christian priest was today arrested along with a 30-year-old woman from a lodge in Attingal on the charge of violating the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act. The police identified the accused as Joseph (37) of Mangadu Church in Neendakara and Seena (30), a resident of Kollam district. Police said the accused would be produced before the Attingal Judicial First Class Magistrate court.

Pedestrian killed

A pedestrian was run over and killed by a KSRTC bus attached to the Vizinjam depot at Vellar on Thursday evening. He has been identified as Manikkuttan (31) of Pulivilakathu veedu, Nedumom, Kovalam. The body has been kept in the mortuary of the Medical College hospital.
