THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 22. The Fort Police have arrested a husband and wife duo on the charges of assault and robbery. The Circle Inspector (Fort), T. F. Xavier, identified the accused as Soman alias "Kochu" Soman (40) of Kamaleswaram and his wife, Usha (35) of Thirunelveli in Tamil Nadu. Both were arrested on the charge of assaulting Muthu, a pavement trader at East Fort, and robbing Rs.200 from him. The CI said that Kochu Soman had served a life sentence in connection with the murder of Chandran, a cobbler, at East Fort in 1990. He said the modus operandi of Soman was to rush into jewellery shops in Chala and decamp with gold ornaments put on display. There are several warrants pending against the accused. Both were produced before the court and remanded.
Drug peddling: one held
The Musuem police have arrested a 30-year-old man, Varghese Samuel alias Binu of Kunnukuzhy, on the charge of peddling drugs. The Circle Inspector (Musuem), P.A. Varghese, said eight ampules of morphine bearing the trade name Tidigesic was seized from the accused. He was produced before the court on the charge of violating the Narcotic Drugs and Psychothropic Substances (NDPS) Act and remanded.
