Ship catches fire

By Our Staff Reporter

KOCHI, JULY 22. A ship berthed for repair at the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) caught fire this evening. Sources said that mv Dweep Sethu, a passenger vessel owned by the Lakswadeep administration, was berthed at the yard for routine repair work.

The fire occurred in the ship's engine room, where welding work was going on. A spark during the welding work might have ignited the fire.

The fire, which occurred at around 11-45 a.m., was put out within half-an hour by the fire personnel.

Two cabins of the ship were destroyed in the fire. An investigation is on.
