Temperature

TIRUCHI, JULY 22. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 33.1 degree Celsius and a minimum of 26.7 degree Celsius.

Death anniversary

The third death anniversary of the legendary Tamil film actor, Sivaji Ganesan, was observed by the Tiruchi Drama Artistes' Association yesterday.

The general secretary of the association and Kalaimamani awardee, M. S. Mohamed Masthan presided over the programme. The trustee of the Hussain Alishah Saidani Bibi Durgah, S. I. Basheer Ahmed, the president of the association, M. C. Thangaraj and others offered floral tributes to the portrait of late Sivaji Ganesan on the association premises at Jinnah maidan.

Taken ill

Twentyfive villagers of Mekkudi near Manikandam panchayat union limits in the district developed nausea after consuming contaminated water supplied from an overhead tank on Wednesday.

They were admitted to the K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical College Hospital today. The District Collector, V. Pandian, accompanied by Health Department officials, visited the hospital.

A 10-member medical team has been rushed to the village consisting of 150 families, official sources said.

Hearing put off

The hearing in the disproportionate wealth case filed by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption against former DMK Minister, K.N. Nehru and his family members, was posted to August 26 by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, R. Kamath.

Schools inspected

The District Collector, V.Pandian, and the Joint Director of Non-Formal and Adult Education, S. Lakshmi, yesterday inspected some of the schools in the city as part of the State-wide survey to identify schools with thatched roof structures.

They, along with members of the district-level committee constituted for the purpose, inspected some of the schools in K. K. Nagar, Edamalaipattipudur and Srirangam areas.

The Collector directed the managements of schools to remove all thatched roof structures by the month-end.

Directive

The Corporation Commissioner, Harmander Singh, has ordered that all garbage lorries be covered with nets while transporting solid wastes to the dumping yards to prevent spillage on the roadsides.

Mr.Singh, who inspected the Corporation garbage dumping yard at Ariyamangalam yesterday, also directed the authorities to repair the damaged compound wall around the yard immediately.

Mettur level

The level at the Mettur dam stood at 74.76 feet today. The inflow was 3402 cusecs and there was no discharge.
