NEW DELHI, JULY 22. Aiming to make the process of visa applications easier, the Italian Embassy here today announced the opening of seven visa call centres from August 16. The call centres would be opening at Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Kochi and Jalandhar and would be operated by VFS (India) Private Limited, a part of the Swiss-based travel group, Kuoni Travel Group. Explaining the advantages of the new call centres at a press conference here, the zonal manager of VFS (North India), Anil Katoch, said: "Earlier, everyone in the northern region had to come all the way down to Delhi to fill in their application, now, instead of coming to Delhi, they have the option of going to Jalandhar as well. As 40 per cent of travellers to Italy in the northern region come from Punjab, it will make the task much more easier for them''. Similarly, while all applicants in South India had to travel to Mumbai, now they have the option of visiting any of the call centres at Kochi, Bangalore or Chennai. Simplifying the process even more, applicants can schedule their interviews over the internet. The Italian Ambassador Antonio Armellini, said: "The initiative was aimed at providing efficient, convenient and fast visa services".
