Vaishali, against the odds

NAGPUR, JULY 23. Vaishali Ramesh Wankhede, a rickshaw-puller's daughter, who had cleared the All-India pre-medical test (PMT), has got an admission for the MBBS course in the Government Medical College (GMC) here. The list of selected students was announced today.

``I am extremely happy... I would be pursuing my medical education in the city where I am born and brought up,'' Vaishali, who scored 85.5 per cent marks in the test, said. She scored 73 per cent marks in her SSC and 81 per cent in HSC from the Dharampeth Tarkunde Junior College here.

Her father Ramesh had given up pulling a rickshaw owing to poor health. Her mother Maya works as a domestic help.
