Village ignored due to remoteness

KRISHNAGIRI, JULY 23. Lack of buses and health care facilities were raised at the mass contact programme in Kottayur at Denkanikottai Taluk here on Saturday.

The village, which is situated around 150 km. from Krishnagiri, is one of the remotest areas in the district.

As many as 15 villages are located on the hill which is around 25 km. from Anjetti. Being a forest area there remained no proper roads to the villages. All along they had been ignored owing to their remoteness.

Three hundred petitions demanding drinking water, free rice coupons, house and land pattas, old-age pension and proper roads were submitted to the Collector, Mangat Ram Sharma.

They also demanded adequate buses from Urigam to Kottayur, Anjetti and Denkanikottai as no buses were plied after 6 p.m.

The villagers said that there were not proper schools and even the teachers posted hardly turned up to take classes.

Water problem was also a major issue as lorries were not able to supply water. A sum of Rs.5 lakhs was immediately sanctioned by the Collector for the drinking water problem. Five open wells at an estimate of Rs.60, 000 each and an overhead tank were also sanctioned.

A sum of Rs.10, 000 was provided for the upgradation of 70 houses at an estimate of Rs.7 lakhs by the local panchyat. The also demanded the construction of a dam at Thottaballa.

The Collector said that though there was a proposal to construct a dam at an estimate of Rs.40 crores it was still pending with the Government. A health camp was also held and the villagers were examined and provided medicines.

At Urigam, a veterinary centre was demanded by the villagers to which the Collector ensured that a camp would be held on every Wednesday.

Mr. Sharma also handed over free house side pattas to 180 persons and old age pension to 50 persons and distributed various welfare measures.
