ERODE, JULY 23 . The work on constructing a traffic island on the roads leading to the Perundurai railway station, Perundurai Police station, Agrahara street and to the old bus stand has come to a standstill, since the Perundurai panchayat has failed to obtain permission from the Highways Department. The panchayat decided to construct the island to ease the heavy traffic before the Perundurai Government hospital and allow free flow of vehicles leading to a private engineering college and to the old bus stand. Several accidents were also reported due to heavy traffic. The construction materials meant for the setting up the island were piled up in the middle of the road causing congestion for the movement of vehicles. The panchayat officials said that efforts were being taken to obtain permission from the Highways Department.
