SIVAKASI, JULY 23. Around 250 residents, including 65 women, of Sathya Nagar and Indira Nagar near Tiruthangal today went on a hunger strike demanding cancellation of licence for granite quarrying, which caused pollution in the area. The agitators were led by the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam union secretary, Krishnamoorthy. They complained that quarrying in the vicinity was affecting the health of the residents besides causing damage to buildings.
