DORTMUND, JULY 23. Draws were the order of the day as favourite Viswanathan Anand opened his campaign in the Dortmund Sparkassen chess meeting with a sedate 25-move deadlock in Closed Ruy Lopez against local interest Arkadij Naiditsch at the Dortmund Theatre here on Thursday. The other match of the group, between Russians Peter Svidler and Sergie Rublevski, also ended in a 25-move draw. In the other group, Sergei Karjakin proved equal to Vladimir Kramnik in 30 moves of Ruy Lopez. Peter Leko and Viorel Bologan drew in 49 moves.
Sasikiran holds Morozevich
Meanwhile in Biel, Switzerland, K. Sasikiran recovered from his second-round defeat to Ruslan Ponomariov to hold top seeded Russian Alexander Morozevich International Masters chess tournament on Wednesday.
Point-position after three rounds (at Biel): 1. Morozevich (2.5); 2. Ponomariov (2); 3-5. Sasikiran, Pelletier and Bacrot (1.5); 6. McShane (0).
