SHIMOGA, JULY 23. Vendors laid a siege to the municipal office here on Friday to protest against their eviction from the footpaths in the main market area by the police at the instance of the municipal authorities. The vendors, who took out a procession from the Ramanna Shreshthi Park, held a demonstration on the municipal premises in support of their demands. The demonstration was organised by the District Malenadu Footpath Fruits, Vegetables and Others Vendors Federation and the Kannada Sene. The demonstrators requested the authorities that they be allowed to continue their business at the existing place as their sudden eviction had thrown them on the streets. This had resulted in their families facing an uncertainty. They pointed out that their sales points were the potential source of revenue to the municipality. The vendors in a memorandum submitted to the Municipal President.
