India, Britain to operate more flights
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
JULY 23.
India and Britain have agreed, in principle, to increase the number of flights. The agreement follows increased traffic potential and passenger demand.
The Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Praful Patel, and Alistair Darling, Secretary of State for Transport, initiated the agreement in London on Thursday, according to a spokesperson of the Civil Aviation Ministry here today.
It was also agreed that bilateral talks would be held either in August or September. The talks were scheduled for March but had to be postponed due to the general elections.
The British Aviation Minister, Tony McNutty, and the Indian Civil Aviation Secretary, Ajay Prasad, were present at the London meeting.
Mr. Patel said the talks were "successful and progressive'' and a move in the positive direction. British Airways operates 19 weekly flights to India and Air India 12.
