Alappuzha
By Our Staff Reporter
ALAPPUZHA, JULY 23. The All India Students Federation (AISF) State president, Liju Jamal, has said that his organisation would reconsider its relations with the Students Federation of India (SFI) if the latter fails to stop its cadres from attacking AISF activists. Mr. Jamal told a press conference here today that the AISF State committee would meet on July 26 to discuss the attack on its cadres by SFI activists. Mr. Jamal alleged that SFI activists had unleashed a reign of terror in various colleges in Alappuzha district this year. "SFI activists are targeting AISF cadres as more and more students are joining the AISF because of the politics of violence being followed by the SFI," the AISF leader said.
Tension in colleges
Mr. Jamal said the AISF Alappuzha district secretary, P.S.M. Hussain, and the district committee member, Sajir, were attacked by the SFI workers on Thursday without any provocation. He observed that the attack was carried out with the knowledge of the SFI district secretary. Mr. Jamal demanded that the assailants be arrested without delay. "Cases should be registered against all those who are responsible for it, including the SFI district secretary," Mr. Jamal said.
Several attacks
He said several AISF leaders had been injured in SFI attacks in various colleges in the district during the last one month. According to him, the SFI's attempt to make campuses its monopoly leads to tension in colleges. Mr. Jamal warned that the AISF would organise strong resistance if the SFI failed to abandon its politics of violence. The CPI Alappuzha district secretary, T. Purushothaman, in a statement, alleged that SFI activists had attacked the CPI Mararikkulam constituency office and injured the party local assistance secretary. Mr. Purushothaman warned that such acts would destroy Left unity and urged all democratic forces to isolate criminals.
