PERAMBALUR, JULY 23 . The Collector, D. Vivekanandan, has asked the Indian Overseas Bank to revise the annual credit plan (ACP) for 2004-05 with more outlay for non-farm sector. Presiding over the district consultative committee meeting held here today, he said the allocation of Rs.9.15 crores for non-farm sector should be stepped up to at least Rs.20 crores to promote industrial and entrepreneurial activities. The IOB, the lead bank for the district, has prepared the ACP envisaging a credit outlay of Rs.294.21 crores for the current financial year including Rs. 9.15 crores for the non-farm sector and Rs.33.72 crores for the service sector. The Collector advised the bank officials to revise the ACP by diverting the allocation from the service sector to the non-farm sector without altering the net outlay. He urged them to expedite disbursement of loans sanctioned last year under the Prime Minister's Rojgar Yojana and Swarna Jayanthi Grama Swarojgar Yojana. About 30 loans each sanctioned under the PMRY and the SGSY last year were yet to be disbursed, he pointed out urging the officials to disburse the same immediately. Under the land purchase and development programme being implemented by the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation for the benefit of landless Adi Dravidar women, 303 applications had been forwarded to the panchayat union offices for scrutiny, he added. The Chief Regional Manager, IOB, Thanjavur, T. S. Sargunapandiyan urged the bank officials to introduce the concept of contract farming in trades like broiler units and to boost cultivation of herbal plants of medicinal value and promotion of cultivation of jatropha carcus, a bio-diesel species. The Project Officer (in-charge), Mahalir Thittam, J. John Britto, said 1,150 SHGs had been formed last year as against the target of 523. Besides, a target of 300 special men SHGs was fixed for checking naxalism in Jeyamkondam, Andimadam and Sendurai blocks and 203 men SHGs had been formed. The Project Officer, DRDA, L.Raja, the Assistant General Manager, NABARD, Thanjavur, N.V.Baskaran, the General Manager, District Industries Centre, S.Asokan spoke.
