3 die in suicide pact?

By Our Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA, JULY 23. A man, his wife and another woman allegedly living with him committed suicide in Jayantipuram of Jaggayyapet mandal in Krishna district on Friday.

Kumbha Sankar, 30, owned an autorickshaw for a while and ran a public telephone booth. He was married to Vani, 25, and had two daughters. He befriended a woman, M. Uma, while running the STD booth and reportedly `married' her. After a while Sankar sent his daughters to his parents' home and brought the woman home. Since his income was not sufficient, he borrowed Rs. 1.25 lakh.

Visits hospital

On Thursday, Sankar went to a private hospital in Jaggayyapet for treatment. He returned home in the evening. Vani reportedly informed her brother-in-law at around 10 p.m. that Sankar had consumed poison. He was rushed to a private hospital where he was declared `brought dead'. The doctors noticed that both the women were also behaving strangely. When questioned they told the doctors that they too had consumed poison.

They were advised to go to the Government hospital, where Uma was declared `brought dead'. The Government doctors after examining Vani referred her to the Vijayawada Government General Hospital, but she died on the way.
