MAHBUBNAGAR, JULY 23. Mild tension prevailed in front of the Chinna Chintagunta police station here after villagers and activists of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Telugu Desam Party, alleged that that a youngster, Dupalli Srinu, 26, died on Friday morning, due to police harassment. The irate mob demanded the suspension of the local sub-inspector, Gopala Krishnamurthy. Srinu, who was called to the police station on July 9, died under suspicious circumstances this morning in a local hospital. He had been summoned the police station following a complaint lodged on July 7 by his neighbour, K. Suresh, regarding a property dispute between the two. The villagers and part activists alleged that the police had tortured Srinu on July 9. However, the police maintained that Srinu had been released after enquiring about the dispute and a case was filed in the court. The Atmakur inspector, Javed Jaffar, has rushed to the spot.
