BANGALORE, JULY 23. The Rail Wheel Factory Sports Association (RWFSA) defeated State Bank of Mysore (SBM) by 45 runs to clinch The Hindu Trophy cricket tournament here on Friday. The final proved to be a lopsided contest after SBM failed to get off the blocks while chasing RWFSA's 192. SBM openers Thilak Naidu and skipper Vijay Madhyalkar perished with injudicious shots. And the asking run-rate galloped to 10 per over in the final stretch, thanks to fine show by the RWFSA bowlers. SBM eventually was bundled out for 147 in 29.2 overs. Earlier in the morning, RWFSA's `man of the final' M. Vinod (66) and Vinay Kumar (53) shared a 92-run third-wicket partnership spread over 78 deliveries. The duo found the gaps and ran hard while SBM stumbled with some inept fielding. RWFSA posted 192 for seven in 30 overs. A. Jayaram, chief of bureau, The Hindu, Bangalore, distributed the awards, while KSCA president Ramprasad and assistant secretary Sudhakar Rao also graced the function.
RWFSA 192 for seven in 30 overs (M. Vinod 66, Vinay Kumar 53) bt SBM 147 in 29.2 overs (K.S.T. Sai 38, L.K. Vishwanath 34, Yere Goud three for 22, Vinay Kumar three for 26).
Special awards:
Man of the final: M. Vinod (RWFSA); Best allrounder: B. Akhil (SBM); Best batsman: G.K. Anil Kumar (Canara Bank); Best bowler: Shahvir Tarapore (Syndicate Bank).
