Cloudy skies

CHENNAI, JULY 23. The sky will be generally cloudy on Saturday, with the possibility of a light rain.

On Friday, Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 34.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26.2. The corresponding temperatures at Meenambakkam were 34 and 25.8 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels were 43 and 46 per cent.

Seminar

Anna IAS Academy is organising a one-day seminar on IAS and IPS examination at the World University Service Centre, Chetpet, on Saturday from 10 a.m. onwards. Successful IAS candidates from Tamil Nadu will be felicitated.

Prostate camp

Abbott India Limited is organising a free Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia detection camp for the elderly on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. About 10 urologists will screen patients in Mohan Hospitals, Arumbakkam; AVM (Madras ENT Research Foundation) and RSR Trinity Acute Care Hospital, Mylapore; Sri Devi Hospital, Anna Nagar; R.G. Stone Urological Research Institute, Saidapet; Amma Hospital, Choolaimedu; Kumaran Hospital, Kilpauk; Andrology and Urology Centre, Adyar, and the Public Health Centre, West Mambalam. Registration begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Pollution level

The Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter exceeded the permissible limit of 100 microgram per cubic metre at the Kilpauk traffic intersection with 131 mcg/cm. It was within the limit at Adyar residential area with 36 mcg/cm. The 24-hour survey was conducted on Thursday by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board under its Chennai Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Programme.

Lecture

The Children's Club is organising a lecture by N.D. Haridas from the Institute of Mathematical Sciences on birth and death of stars. The lecture, to be held at 96, V.M. Street, Mylapore, on Sunday, is open to high school students and teachers. Phone: 28474140.

Eye check-up

About 300 students of Government Girls Secondary School, Nandanam, were screened for various eye problems, including refractive errors, by a team of doctors from Rajan Eye Care Hospital. The camp, jointly organised with Lions Club of Padi Shenoy Nagar, had 40 students scheduled for treatment at the hospital.

Training
