VISAKHAPATNAM, JULY 23. The Third Metropolitan Magistrate, A. Mary Grace Kumari, on Friday found P. Shiva Kumar (28) and his mother, Rajeswari, guilty of harassing his wife for additional dowry and convicted each of them to undergo two years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.5,000. According to the prosecution submitted by the Public Prosecutor, K. Venkata Lakshmi, Shiva Kumar who was then working in Bangalore, married Kothalanka Lakshmi Manikanteswari, daughter of a temple priest in the old city area, on February. 16, 2001. He came back to the city with his wife but started harassing her along with his mother for additional dowry. Lakshmi was beaten up on June 28, 2002, after which she tried to commit suicide by consuming pesticide. The doctor who treated her had also deposed in this case. The case was investigated by the One Town Police. Ms. Mary Grace Kumari convicted the two accused under Sec. 498 (A) of I.P.C.
