VISAKHAPATNAM, JULY 23. The King George Hospital authorities have decided to order a departmental probe against the staff nurse, Swapnapriya, for allegedly taking up another job as the vice-principal of a private nursing college. The KGH Superintendent, G. Sai Gopal, told reporters on Friday that as per service rules, none was permitted to hold an office of profit. (Ms. Swapnapriya left the job as the in-charge principal after she found herself in the eye of a storm as a fallout of the recent suicide bid by the B.Sc. first year student of the Esskay College of Nursing, Soujanya, due to her alleged harassment). Several activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) called on Dr. Sai Gopal, on Thursday and submitted a representation demanding a probe into the violation of service rules by Ms. Swapnapriya.
Probe by panel
The Superintendent said that based on the written complaint, he would set up a committee to go into the allegations and recommend to the Government disciplinary action, if required. Enquiries revealed that Ms. Swapnapriya was acting as the principal for the past several months though she was not qualified to hold the post. A day after the suicide attempt by Soujanya, the former told an ABVP and the BJYM delegation that there was nothing wrong it taking up a private job. At a press conference organised at the behest of the management, some students and staff of the college thanked the correspondent-cum-secretary, J.V. Krishnaiah, and others for their `gesture' to take care of the medical expenses of Soujanya.
`No compromise deal'
Father of Soujanya, G. Mutyala Naidu, who owns a medical shop in Srinivasanagar, categorically denied any deal for a compromise with the management when he was asked to comment on reports to that effect. Sources in the corporate hospital where Soujanya was undergoing treatment said that she was not in a position to speak due to multiple injuries sustained by her.
