Temperature

TIRUCHI, JULY 23. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 32.5 degree Celsius and a minimum of 26.5 degree Celsius.

New track laid

A new track has been laid in Tiruchi town station main building platform, thus elevating it as a crossing station. The Southern Railway General Manager, V. Anand, who was on a day's visit to Tiruchi, opened the new track.

With the laying of the new track, trains could now be received on the platform situated in the main building thereby benefiting the railway passengers, railway officials here said.

The Chief Workshop Engineer, Southern Railway, Chennai, N.S. Kasturi Rangan, Tiruchi Divisional Railway Manager D.K. Saraf and other senior railway officials were present.

12 arrested

Twelve persons were arrested by the city police for allegedly running unauthorised bars last night. The police conducted surprise raids at a few places including Woraiyur, Cantonement, Edamalaipatti Pudur and K.K.Nagar. Further investigation is on.

Four nabbed

The Srirangam police have arrested four persons during night patrolling on Thursday.

Three persons — M.Murthy (35) of Thuvakudi, V.Babu (50) of Kulithalai and S.Manikandan (19) of Srirangam — were found allegedly loitering under suspicious grounds and investigation revealed that the trio had planned to commit some theft, police said.

They also took into custody a 54-year old person, K.Chinnappadas, who allegedly robbed a petty shop owner near the Ammamandapam of Rs.200 at knife-point.

The police have registered cases and are investigating.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur reservoir stood at 75.05 feet today. The inflow was 1,840 cusecs and the discharge nil.
