Two cases of suicide reported

BANGALORE, JULY 23. A 23-year-old youth, who was reportedly "cheated" by his girlfriend, committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his house in the Magadi Road police station limits on Thursday night. The police gave the name of the dead as Ajay Singh from Chhattisgarh, who was working at the railway canteen here.

In another incident, Veena (19), an employee of a garment factory, committed suicide by hanging herself in her house at Kasturi Layout in the Rajagopalanagar police station limits on Thursday night. The reason for suicide is not known, the police said.

Contractor electrocuted

A labour contractor, Dinesh (25), was electrocuted at a construction site at 7th Block, Koramangala on Tuesday. The victim's body was found in a water tank on Thursday. Dinesh, a native of Chitradurga, had reportedly gone to switch off the mains after the other workers had left the site when the accident occurred.

Chain snatched

Two youths snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 20,000 from woman in the Chandra Layout police station limits on Thursday night.

Man found dead

A man was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his house in K.S. Layout in the Yeshwantpur police station limits on Friday. Foul smell was emanating from the house and the neighbours informed the police, who broke open the doors of the house and found the putrefied body. The man's wife and two children had gone to Nellore on Tuesday, the police said. The family had taken the house on rent recently, and the neighbours did not know them, the police said. The police are trying to establish the identity of the dead and trace the house owner. The Yeshwantpur police have registered a case.

Fake notes seized

The Commercial Street police on Thursday arrested two persons and seized from them 1,000 fake currency notes in the denomination of Rs. 100. The police gave the names of the accused as Ashwathnarayana (74) of Challahalli near Rajanukunte and Ramachandra (35) of Basaveshwaranagar. They were arrested when they came to a place near Bowring Hospital, allegedly to exchange fake currency notes for genuine ones.

Many arrested

The Madivala police on Thursday raided a massage parlour on V.P. Road and arrested five women and two men on charges of immoral trafficking. The police seized from them Rs. 4,500 in cash. In another case, the police on Thursday raided a hotel in the Kalasipalya police station limits and arrested eight women and three men on charges of immoral trafficking.
