Pathanamthitta
By Our Staff Reporter
PATHANAMTHITTA, JULY 24. The promoters of the proposed air-strip project at Aranmula, Mount Zion Trust, said that the allegations levelled against the project were ``baseless'' and aimed at ``scuttling'' the project. Addressing a press conference at the Pathanamthitta Press Club today, the trust chairman, K.J. Abraham Kalamannil, said the trust would continue its efforts to set up the proposed air-strip. Mr. Abraham said the trust had already purchased 125 acres of low-lying paddy fields which had been remaining uncultivated since the past nine years for the proposed project. He said the proposal was to reclaim 10 acres of land for constructing an air-strip required for the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Institute run by the trust in the first phase of the project. When pointed out the submission in the Assembly by P.C. George, MLA, against the reclamation of paddy fields for the proposed project, Mr. Abraham alleged that the MLA's submission was politically motivated.
