Police asked to probe complaint against City Planner

By Our Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM, JULY 24. The Fifth Metropolitan Magistrate, Chintada Rajagopala Rao, on Friday directed the Gopalapatnam police to investigate the criminal complaint filed by a resident of Gopalapatnam against the City Planner and submit its report to the court on or before October 14.

The criminal complaint was filed by G. Ramadevi alleging that the Municipal Corporation authorities had demolished a part of her house in spite of an interim order of a court barring the Municipal Corporation not to interfere in a case of hike in property tax.

Ms. Ramadevi was living in a house on the Gopalapatnam main road she purchased in 1983, according to the counsel of Ms. Ramadevi, Golagani Appa Rao. When the Municipal Corporation hiked the property tax in 2002, she appealed for a reduction, which was turned down by the Corporation.

On July 5 the Municipal Corporation authorities demolished a part of her house, which prompted Ms. Ramadevi to file a criminal complaint in the court of the Fifth Metropolitan Magistrate.
