CHENNAI, JULY 24. M.K. Eelavendan, a Sri Lankan MP, who arrived here from Colombo this afternoon, was sent back to the island. Official sources said that the MP, representing the Tamil National Alliance, arrived here, on his way to Bangalore to attend the World Tamil Confederation's conference tomorrow; but he was denied entry as per a Ministry of Home Affairs warning circular issued in January 2001. Mr. Eelavendan was deported on December 14, 2000 on the ground that "his continued presence on Indian soil was undesirable due to his pro-LTTE activities".
